AYMES is dedicated to supporting dietitians and healthcare professionals in their clinical practice. As part of this commitment, we commissioned the Nutrition in Focus 24/25 report to scope the changing landscape affecting adult malnutrition.
The Report offers a compelling overview of malnutrition management, highlighting key findings on the cost-of-living crisis, sustainability, and the roles of dietitians and technology. With contributions from expert dietitians and data from over 200 dietitians, the report is both informative and engaging.
Over the last five years, the UK has been subject to a global pandemic, European war and increasing costs of living. These challenges have all had an impact on our healthcare system. As dietitians, HCPs, and industry partners, we have a responsibility to influence future practice and tackle current challenges to reduce the burden of malnutrition at an individual and population level.
Key findings include:
- 1/3 of dietitians believe malnutrition is low on the NHS list of priorities1
- Implementations of nutritional care pathways could achieve savings up to £229 million per year for health and social care2
- 11 million people in the UK are currently living with food insecurity3
- Only 5% of dietitians reported that the sustainability of ingredients and recyclability of packaging influenced their oral nutritional supplement recommendations1
- Nearly all dietitians surveyed (98%) reported an increased need for dietetic intervention over recent months1
