Helping Others

We are proud to donate to UK charities because at AYMES we believe that tackling issues like loneliness, depression and abuse goes hand-in-hand with supporting older adults with their physical health. With each new nutritional product we develop, AYMES seeks to improve the care of millions of patients who are malnourished or at risk of becoming malnourished throughout the UK.

AYMES recognises that patients and communities often face challenges in accessing the best possible care, and we know that passion for nutritional science and product development alone cannot solve these problems. That is why AYMES works hard to nurture deep and enduring relationships with patient advocates, charities and healthcare professionals in the UK who work tirelessly in local communities to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people day after day.

In addition to ensuring our products are affordable, AYMES is proud to support charities aligned to helping those in need in our communities. We realise that older adults are often the most vulnerable people and are the ones most likely to need our products. With this in mind, we believe that we have a moral duty to keep the patient at the heart of everything AYMES does, and therefore we pledge to give 5% of our profits* to support causes that make a difference to the lives of vulnerable and older adults.

In 2016, AYMES chose to Support The Silver Line – a helpline for older people, chaired by Esther Rantzen (the founder of Child Line.) Like Child Line, The Silver Line Helpline provides three functions to support older people:

  • A befriending service to combat isolation and loneliness
  • A service linking older people to the many, varied services that exist around the UK
  • A means of enabling older people, who may be suffering neglect and abuse, to access dedicated services to protect and support them

“Of the 10 million older people (over the age of 65) living in Britain today, 51 per cent of people over 75 are living alone. Those working in the statutory and the voluntary sector are deeply concerned about the impact of isolation and loneliness on older people because it has been shown to shorten life, creating depression, hastening the onset of dementia, and causing physical effects such as malnutrition. And yet there are many services around the country which could counteract these effects, if older people were linked into them. 40% of older people, according to a 2011 survey do not know where to turn for help.” (“About The Silver Line”, 2012)

In 2016 AYMES donated £10,000 to The Silver Line. We would not have been able to do this without your support and the support of Dietitians, GPs and other healthcare professionals in the UK. Thank you so much for supporting us and helping us to support The Silver Line.

The Silver Line is a free, confidential helpline, which provides information, friendship and support for older adults. The Silver Line is free of charge to callers and is available 24 hours a day every day of the year.

The Silver Line Helpline number is 0800 4 70 80 90, and they offer a friendship service, connect older people with local support services and provide protection and support for older adults who are suffering neglect or abuse.
